Call It Right — Softball

Little League Softball umpiring — built where softball is genuinely its own game rather than a restatement of the baseball course.

Seventeen blocks so far

Most of what an umpire does is the same in both sports — the diamond is the same size, the mechanics are the same mechanics, obstruction is obstruction. Pitching is the opposite: not an addition to baseball's rules but a replacement, and a large one. The circle rule has no baseball counterpart at all. So those came first — and where a thing genuinely does carry, like ending a game, this course says so rather than restating it as though it were different.

For the rest — plate and base mechanics, positioning, the people half of game management and a knowledge check — Call It Right is the full program. It teaches Little League Baseball, so start with the crossover module below before you carry anything across.

What this is, and what it is not

Self-guided study, free start to finish. It is not official Little League certification, it is not a substitute for your league's own umpire training, and finishing it does not qualify anyone to work a game. Your league decides who works its games. No certificate is issued for this program.

Everything taught here is sourced to Little League's own published material, and where that material stops, this course says so on screen instead of filling in the gap — the illegal-pitch penalty is the clearest example, and you will meet it in the pitching block. The rulebook is still the authority; carry a current one.
